Warm-Up Oct 17

Impact on Lifestyle – Describe both positive and negative impacts of technology on today’s lifestyle, as well as of your own daily life. Include how it has changed in ten years, and again in five years, as well as the personal impact it has had on your life.

In 1936, the first every computer has been invented. From this day onwards, technology has been one of the most important impacts to everybody daily lives. This allowed people to be able to conveniently access information and store information. This is amazing at the time because it was the first of its’ time. As years goes by, the technology of the computer has improved. Everything becomes smaller, for example the micro chips and other parts that used to be huge. Another example is monitors. From what I remember monitors used to be huge and heavy but as years goes by, it becomes more and more thin. Another technology that has impacted everybody lives is smart phones. When phones were first invented, the only purpose that we used it for was for calling people only. But as years goes by, the phone becomes a mini computer at the reach of your fingertips. At this point, everything changed. Some negative impacts of the on going technology is socializing. Before phones became a thing, I remember when I used to have bike squads in my neighbor hood. When everyone was outside and was able to hang out without any kinds of distractions. While technologies has been a big improvement and is very helpful for every day life, it also has a negative impact that socially impact us.

Meta Tag Abuse – Discuss the ethics of meta tag use, drawing your own conclusions regarding ethical practices. You should make recommendations for how search engines should handle meta tag abuse, possibly providing examples of commonly misused meta tags.

The reason that web designers uses meta tags is because it allows them to enable search engines to easily categorize webpage contents. Meta tags are snippets of text that describe a page’s content; the meta tags don’t appear on the page itself, but in the coding. Meta Tag abuse involves placing misleading content in a Web page’s Meta tag to boost the page’s search engine results. This is super unethical because it’s unfair for the other people’s meta tags. One way we could handle these kinds of meta tag abuse is finding the culprits and sending them to jail since it is super super illegal. The reason why they misused meta tag is because they want to attract more traffic than other websites. Its detracting from advertisement because their website is getting a higher rate unlike people who spend money on building the website.

Differentiate between commercial and organizational websites.

A commercial softwares requires purchasing from a license. Their goal is to promote and sell the product of their product or services from a business. While an organization website is when a website is owned by a group of people, organization or any kind of association wether self made or made professionally. The motive between a commercial and organizational website is different as well. For example a commercial website wants to sell the product or show what they’re about while an organizational website can be about the person or a certain thing. They also don’t profit from sells as they are mainly informational sites or open sourced softwares.

Project Management – Intro

  • Did you behave ethically in your last group project?

In my last group project, I did behave ethically, but at times I didn’t as well. Most of the times, I try to get everything that I have to do done, but sometimes I slack and don’t really contribute. I want to improve on this as it is very beneficial to group projects and doing good in general.

  • Were you ever tempted to behave unethically?

I was tempted to behave unethically when I’m feeling really lazy and tired, but I try to improve on that.

  • Why or why not?

The reason of this is because I lose focus on what Im doing. When I’m tired, I start to stop caring and contributing. This is very bad because, it is best to always be on task, focus and contribute in group projects. I feel as though I can improve on this and want to improve on this. The reason is because I don’t want to be the only one in the group not doing nothing and receiving hate. I also want better grades as well, so I don’t want to be the person who ruins it for someone else.

Warm-Up Sept 13 – Describe the difference between a search engine and a search directory.

To find information on the web, being able to search what you need to find is a very interesting and easy process. While searching for information, we use a search engine and a search directory as well. The difference between both of them are the way they get organized and their information. When using a search engine, it uses a program called spiders or bots that searches the internet, follow links, and brings back the information to the search engine. It uses complex algorithms to determine which Web pages are most likely to fit the description of the search. Directories are human powered instead of by algorithms. The way it works is, site owners submit their sites into directories, and editors determine if the site should be included inside the search directory or not.
